And turned them into something beautiful that I received several complements on today, Tah Dah!
Whoo hoo! This, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason why YOU need a pedicure, can I get an Amen? Better yet, can I set you an appointment? (Men only get polish and/or nail art if they want it...)
After my pedicure the esthtition(sp?) students needed a guinea pig and so I volunteered. (I had known this was coming so I quit shaving at least two weeks ago... My family is so lucky!) They waxed my armpits, they waxed my eyebrows, they waxed off all those little old lady hairs around my mouth that were trying to convince people I might, just possibly, be considering how I would look with a manly 'stach and then they waxed my legs! (I kindly did NOT take pictures of those procedures so use your imagination if you absolutely MUST picture them your head.)
I LOVE being a guinea pig! The invents of today have inspired me to look into becoming a full-time student for the rest of my life just to be a practice dummy <sigh> That's good stuff right there!
So I am free of nearly all my unwanted body hair and I have to say that waxing my underarms didn't even hurt! I had my nose waxed the week before and it didn't hurt either, yay! I have smooth, soft silky legs and I even convinced them to wax off the little patch of "gorilla hair" on each of my big toes, lol! If I was any younger I would be putting on some high heels and be off to some party, any party, just to show off my legs but as it is I think I'm headed towards bed - and fast!
I'm not sure that Age has really caught up with me - I think he cheated and was here ahead of time, just waiting in the closet for the opportune moment to jump out and suck those few, precious drops of teen-aged energy out of the super-secret, uber-safe place I had been hiding them so successfully that for years I'd forgotten where I put it!
Be that as it may, something magical has truly happened in my life and people are noticing that I LOVE what I do! Here's a picture from practicing what we learned yesterday:
Yesterday we used the horseshoe-looking things on the white roll (upper left corner of the photo) to sculpt acrylic nails onto plastic fingers. Sounds easy but believe me, it is not. Uh uh. No way, no how! So far this is my least favorite project, although using the nail forms on a real person and not the fake fingers will probably make the job 95% easier, just sayin'. You can see the Nail Tip Clipper at the top center of the photo while some of the "finished" tips are on the counter top. The fun part coming up next will be trying to put the sculpted acrylic nails on myself or a fellow student for practice on a real human being! They won't last long because we will be omitting the key ingredient to bind the acrylic to the nails but at least it's practice on real fingers and as soon as they pop off we can do it again!
Tomorrow I have one person coming in at 10:15 for a pedi/mani and then I have a second person coming in at 1:15 for another pedi/mani. Thursday I have one morning spot that is still open and then Friday my 10:15 and 1:15 spots are both filled - I'm so excited! Filling my calendar has been very easy for me so far but some of my fellow students are struggling with getting their models in so I know that I'm very blessed!
And that, my friend, is just another day in the life of an up and coming Nail Technician!
